Changes effective July 2017
Shared Parental Leave
Shared Parental Leave will be increased to further encourage and support shared parental responsibility. Working fathers will be able to share four weeks of leave from their wives' 16 weeks of maternity leave, as long as the latter agree. This will apply to working parents of Singapore citizen children born on or after 1 July 2017. More details will be released closer to 1 July 2017.
Adoption Leave
To better support adoptive parents in caring for their adopted child, adoption leave will be extended to 12 weeks, for adoptive mothers who adopt an infant (younger than 1 year old) on or after 1 July 2017. The first four weeks of adoption leave will be paid for by the employer (for the 1st and 2nd children), and the last 8 weeks by the Government. For the 3rd and subsequent children, all 12 weeks of leave will be funded by the Government. More details will be released closer to 1 July 2017.
