Building a Robust Finance Function for an International Cross-Border Media Buying Business

Industry: Marketing and Advertising – Global Media Buying
Services Engaged: Accounting, Payroll and Finance Advisory

Table of Contents

Overview

Multiverse Partners Network is a Singapore-headquartered media buying partner specialising in the travel, tourism and government sectors. The firm works with international brands and their agencies on cross-border campaign planning and execution. With transactions spanning multiple currencies and relationships with international publishers and media owners, establishing a robust finance function from the outset was a priority.

Basil Chua, Managing Director, and Eunice Goh, Executive Director and Co-Founder, share how RSM Stone Forest has supported the development of a professional, well-controlled finance function to underpin the firm’s international operations.

The Challenge

Cross-border media buying brings significant financial complexity. The directors needed a finance partner that could support:

  • Multi-currency invoicing, settlement and reconciliation, with transactions maintained in a clean and auditable manner

  • Singapore GST treatment of international services, including zero-rating where applicable under section 21(3) of the GST Act, with access to advice on foreign tax questions when required

  • Disciplined supplier payment processes for transactions with international publishers and media owners

  • Singapore payroll and statutory compliance, delivered accurately and consistently

  • Sound risk management and financial controls embedded within the day-to-day finance function

The company was looking beyond basic bookkeeping for a finance partner that could provide professional depth, disciplined execution and access to a wider international network when required.

The Solution

Multiverse Partners Network engaged RSM Stone Forest’s outsourced accounting and payroll team. The engagement progressed in four key stages:

1. Establishing a Strong Foundation. We helped establish the company’s accounting processes on a clean and well-controlled basis from the outset, aligned with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards.

2. Strengthening Operating Discipline. We implemented structured workflows across accounting, reconciliation, GST compliance and management reporting, supported by professional oversight from our team.

3. Implementing a Cloud-Based Platform. A modern accounting platform with appropriate controls was put in place to provide a practical and scalable solution suited to the company’s needs.

4. Providing Ongoing Support. The engagement now encompasses accounting and payroll, with access to finance advisory support from RSM as required.

Throughout the engagement, the RSM Stone Forest team has worked as an extension of the company’s finance function — providing responsive technical support, professional execution, and a pragmatic understanding of commercial realities.

“Cross-border media is a finance discipline as well as a media one. We wanted to set the finance function up properly from the start, and RSM Stone Forest has helped us do that — accurate, well-documented and properly controlled. We treat them as an extension of our team.”
— Basil Chua, Managing Director, Multiverse Partners Network Pte Ltd

“We wanted a finance partner with professional discipline and a wider international network we could call on as needed. RSM Stone Forest has delivered both, which means finance is something we can rely on rather than worry about.”
— Eunice Goh, Executive Director & Co-Founder, Multiverse Partners Network Pte Ltd

The Results

Working with RSM Stone Forest has delivered four key outcomes:

  • Greater accuracy and control: Transactions and obligations are recorded and reconciled with the precision we need for management reporting and external review.

  • More useful management information: Clean and structured financial information enables management to make commercial decisions with greater confidence.

  • A scalable finance platform: With a capable finance partner in place, the company has a stronger foundation to support increasing volumes of international work.

  • Greater credibility with clients and partners: Clients receive clean, well-prepared reporting, while suppliers benefit from disciplined and predictable payment processes.

“With finance and payroll in good hands, our team can focus on what we do best — delivering media and marketing outcomes for our clients.”
— Basil Chua, Managing Director, Multiverse Partners Network Pte Ltd

Client Experience

The client describes the working relationship as professional, technically capable and commercially practical, with the team providing dependable support as the business continues to grow.

“Strong advice, dependable delivery, and a team that genuinely cares about getting the work right. We are happy to recommend RSM Stone Forest, and we plan to continue working with them as we grow — one brick at a time.”
— Basil Chua, Managing Director, Multiverse Partners Network Pte Ltd
